German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Braun is a large, young dog. He was left to his own devices at his previous home and will need some training. He will be very loyal to the human he choses to make a bond. Braun responds well to clicker/marker training but he is looking for someone to be his leader. He likes to play with balls and chew on bones. It does not appear that he has much play drive at the moment, but may have some prey drive. ***Braun is a NO for a home with cats. Braun is available for adoption, but will only be placed in a home with significant previous GSD e xperience (as an adult), one that understands leadership, structure, consistent training and boundaries, and one without young children. Braun has separation anxiety and his adopter will need to understand how to guide him and help manage this situation. He has made tremendous progress with his foster, but it is possible that it may simply be a "management" and not a cure. His issues are not containment-phobia, and he will kennel up. Wire kennels are not an acceptable method of containment for Braun. He will need an airline approved type kennel with a NSEW locking mechanism at this point in time. Excluding his SA, he is an excellent house dog. He's house trained, quiet, and will entertain himself while the foster is working or watching TV. His favorite things to do are to chew on his antlers, his KONG, or balls. He is a strong chewer. He loves to sleep on the bed and is a good foot warmer. He tends to stay in one place at night so once he's there, that's probably where you will find him in the morning. He knows to "sit" for his food, and ring a bell when he wants to go outside. Braun has been attending weekly lessons at P.U.P.S. Dog Obedience and he is doing very well. His adoption contract will have a clause stating that he must take at least 8 lessons with Karen Decker, of P.U.P.S. Dog Obedience and she is located in Columbia, Maryland or Melissa Pink in the Alexandria, VA area (vacaninecoach@gmail.com) would be an acceptable alternative trainer to Karen. If you are seriously interested in adopting Braun and have a trainer you have been working with over the years, please let us know and we will be happy to talk with them to see if we might be able to add them to our list of approved trainers. Braun is looking to bond with his handler and will do so quickly, but will continue to need guidance and opportunities to increase his self-confidence. He is a fantastic dog, a lot of fun, and will be incredibly loyal to his human. If you are looking for a velcro dog that you can work with, mold, and form an incredible bond with, then Braun might be the dog for you. Please do not apply to adopt Braun if you have children under the age of 15, cats, or small dogs. He will also not be placed in a home without the individual having significant knowledge of the breed and their idiosyncrasies.
Braun is a good boy but he's looking for his special person. Will it be you? Requirements for adopting Braun:
